In need of more space? Sure, added storage is a huge win, but what about a whole room that fits your ever-changing lifestyle needs in the home?

This is where our flex rooms come in handy.

What is a flex room?

Many of our new construction homes either have a flex room or an option to add a flex room to your home plan. Flex rooms are found on the main level near the home’s entryway. This provides our homeowners with an area to use as they see fit. The TOP 5 flex space uses we see from our homeowners are:

  1. Home office
  2. Sitting area
  3. Fitness area
  4. Playroom
  5. Craft room

Not sure which one of these ideas best suits you and your family’s needs? Read below to find out and get the home design inspiration you need to help you get started!

Home Office

A home office is certainly a great use for this space! In fact, it is the most popular use among our homeowners. A flex room is a perfect size and location for a home office, and with so many people leaving their corporate offices and taking a work-from-home approach this space is just what they need. It can be difficult to focus or organize your thoughts when you do not have a set space to do so. we see homeowners getting extremely creative with designing their new home offices. Show us yours! Sitting Area Flex Room Ideas

A sitting area is both fashionable and functional. This space would make for a beautiful additional seating area. It is just the right size to accommodate some extra company. Whether you visit with family frequently or like to entertain, this would be a wonderful way for you to use your flex space. This area is one of the most fun spaces to decorate! You can take your home design to the next level if you utilize this space correctly. Because it is a smaller area than your main living room, it does not take much to make this room complete. With that being said, you should furnish this spot with your nicer furniture and accessories. It will be the first room your guests notice as they walk in, and it won’t face the everyday wear and tear in your main living room.

Fitness Area

If staying active is an important part of your lifestyle we would highly recommend using your flex space as a fitness area. Our homeowners who took this direction with their flex room absolutely love the convenience! This space has just enough room to do your morning routine whether it’s yoga, pilates, cardio, or weights. Fitness floor tiles are recommended if you intend to use this space for weighted activities.

Playroom

Complete your family home with a flexible playroom for the kids! There is never enough room for fun when you have little ones to entertain! A flex room is an amazing area for the kids to play, hang out, and watch movies with their siblings and friends. It is the perfect setup for entertaining guests. Let the kids have fun while the adults can all catch up! You will want to make this space fun and comfy. We love to decorate with the kid’s teepees and bean bags for a playroom and the kids love them too!

Craft Room

Sometimes working from home calls for more than just a desk. Our crafty homeowners have both businesses and hobbies that can be done out of their own homes! Whether it’s painting, drawing, sewing, crocheting, you name it – our flex rooms are an ideal spot for it all! Depending on what craft you enjoy will determine the best decor for this space. Although, all craft rooms can’t go wrong with lots of organization and storage.
